How I Created the Album Cover for Armored Saint

Emotion Factory Reset Album Cover Armored Saint by DDKing

Sometimes the internet surprises you.

A while ago, the legendary American metal band Armored Saint discovered my work through Instagram. What started as a simple online connection slowly evolved into something I never expected: creating the official album artwork for their new album Emotion Factory Reset.

As an artist from Ronse working under the name DDKing, this project felt surreal from the very beginning. Not because it was “big,” but because it connected two worlds that people often still see as opposites: traditional music culture and AI-assisted contemporary art.

And honestly, that is exactly why this project mattered to me.

The Process Behind the Artwork

Many people still think AI art is created in two clicks.

This cover proves the opposite.

The band first shared sketches, references and visual directions. Together, we explored different atmospheres, compositions and symbolic elements. I created multiple generations and visual concepts to better understand the emotional identity of the album.

Only after that process did the real artwork begin.

The final image was not a random AI output. It was built layer by layer through direction, refinement, reconstruction, experimentation and artistic decision-making. Every texture, expression, light source and detail had to feel right for the music.

The goal was never to make “an AI image.”

The goal was to create an album cover that felt like Armored Saint.

Dark. Human. Intense. Emotional. Mechanical, yet fragile.

AI Is a Tool — Not a Replacement

This collaboration also says something bigger about the future of art.

AI does not replace creativity. It amplifies vision.

Without human emotion, taste, storytelling and decision-making, these tools create nothing meaningful. The machine does not dream. The artist does.

As someone who also works with painting, exhibitions and physical galleries through ArtNomadique, I never see AI as the enemy of traditional art. I see it as another language artists can learn to speak.

Some artists use oil paint.Others use cameras.I use algorithms, emotion and imagination.

And sometimes… that leads to a heavy metal album cover on the other side of the world.

From Ronse to the International Metal Scene

Armored Saint

Seeing my work connected to an iconic band like Armored Saint remains incredibly special.

Especially knowing that everything started from a small gallery in Belgium, a passion for visual storytelling, and years of experimenting with new technology while trying to stay emotionally honest in the work.

The album was released through Metal Blade Records and received attention in both the art and metal worlds, including coverage in Belgian media and features in magazines such as Rock Tribune.

For me, this project was more than a commission.

It was proof that art evolves. And that emotion will always matter more than the tool used to create it.
